Magnesium Oil Benefits, Uses and Side Effects

Generally speaking, magnesium oil isn’t one of the first things people think about when it comes to improving their health naturally. However, this little-known oil holds a whole host of health benefits.

The usual sources of magnesium include leafy greens (spinach), nuts, seeds, and whole grains. While it’s certainly important to eat these and try to get magnesium in your diet, the use of a magnesium oil supplement can help people who might not be able to eat nuts due to allergies (nuts that contain magnesium include almonds, cashews, peanuts, and coconuts).

Why Magnesium Is So Important

Side effects of a magnesium deficiency include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Weakness and dizziness
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Hyper-excitability
  • Headaches

This tends to be very rare in healthy individuals. While magnesium is important for everyone to have in their bodies, certain groups of people are more at risk for magnesium deficiency than others. This includes:

  • People with chronic GI diseases
  • People with type 2 diabetes
  • Alcoholics

These groups of people tend to absorb less magnesium than do those outside the demographic.

In addition, because of the kidney issues that arise as a person ages (or those whose body becomes damaged due to chronic illness), the excretion rate of magnesium also increases faster than can be replenished. Because of this, use of magnesium oil could be helpful in restoring them to healthy levels, and very quickly at that.

The needs of children differ from adults, and as a person grows, their body requires greater amounts of magnesium and other nutrients. Pregnant women are also encouraged to increase their magnesium intake. Again, because it is absorbed poorly through oral intake, it could help a lot of people to use it in oil form.

Why Use Magnesium Oil?

Because of the swift absorption of magnesium through the skin, the benefits of using magnesium oil start to show up faster.

Using magnesium oil is an excellent means to rapidly boost magnesium levels without many of the drawbacks of oral magnesium supplements (e.g., intestinal discomfort).

Magnesium Oil Benefits

Magnesium is one of those substances we need in our diet known as a mineral. It’s not a vitamin but is still important for the body to have in order to function properly. Magnesium is involved in several chemical reactions in the body and contributes to energy production and the breaking down of sugars in the body (called glycolysis). Magnesium also helps with the absorption of calcium and potassium. As these two nutrients play a factor in our muscular and nervous system, so magnesium contributes to our neurological and muscular health.

Other benefits include:

  • Muscle relaxation
  • Better quality of sleep
  • Improved daytime energy
  • Treatment of rosacea and other skin disorders

Because of the swift absorption of magnesium through the skin, the benefits of magnesium start to show up faster too. Magnesium oil is very popular in the field of sports medicine because it is thought to decrease swelling associated with sports injuries.

Magnesium Oil Side Effects

Magnesium oil can cause burning, stinging or itching. Always use a patch test if you suspect you’re sensitive to a particular oil.
