White Flower Oil Benefits, Uses and Side Effects

From decongesting blocked sinuses to soothing aching muscles and cramps, there is one particular all-natural oil combination which is being heralded as a natural cure-all for a whole range of symptoms. White flower oil is cooling, refreshing, soothing to the muscles and  great for clearing to the sinuses. It’s based on a recipe that combines some of the most effective essential oils around.

A Mr Gan Geock Eng was a local Singaporean merchant who first developed the combination in Singapore back in 1927. Seeing an incredible opportunity, he started to mass produce the oil and it instantly became popular around the world. To this day it remains a trusted cure for congestion, muscular aches and general pains. 

The oil also goes be the name of Pak Fah Yeow, which means “white flower”. The name implies that it is extracted from one particular plant, but in reality the name was simply selected by Mr. Eng after one of his own favored flowers, the white narcissus.

White flower oil is made by creating a combination a number of oils, similar to Thieves essential oil blend. It combines wintergreen oil with peppermint, menthol, eucalyptus, camphor and lavender essential oils, all of which are well known for their natural benefits. Thanks to this, it has become one of those family favourite cure-all that’s found in medicine cabinets across the world.

White Flower Oil Benefits

Among the numerous benefits the oil provides, it’s know to help with:

  • Congestion – White flower oil is a fantastic home remedy for the discomfort of sinus pain and congestion. It is completely natural and makes a great alternative to decongestant pills, which can come with a nasty set of side effects. The best way to use the oil to unblock your sinuses is to mix a few drops of the oil with a bowl of hot water, drape a towel over your head, and inhale the fumes. You can also rub a couple of drops onto your body or add a drop to your pillow at night. This has the added bonus of naturally helping to combat snoring.
  • Headaches – If you suffer from anxiety, tiredness or stress induced headaches, this oil could be your savior. Simply massage a few drops into your temples for instant, cooling relief.
  • Aches and pains – Pak Fah Yeow is also a tried and true home remedy for muscular aches and pains. If you’ve find yourself with a sprain, strain or swelling and need relief from the pain, this could be the treatment for you. Just a couple of drops three or two times a day is enough to alleviate pain and make a significant difference to any muscular discomfort you may be experiencing. In addition, it can be combined with a carrier oil, such as wheat germ oil to make a profoundly soothing massage balm for deep tissue massage and relaxation.
  • Travel sickness – This versatile health product can even be a natural aid for travel sickness. Rub just a couple of drops behind the ears to help alleviate the symptoms.

White Flower Oil Side Effects

White flower oil does not seem to produce any side effects, but like many essential oils, it is not recommended for use with pregnant women or children. Some essential oils may cause irritation or allergic reactions in people with sensitive skin so it is wise to do a patch test before using regularly.
