Ginger is derived from the root of the herb Zingiber Officinale. and has been utilized for centuries as a delicacy, medicine, and as a spice. Ginger originated in southern China, spreading to the Spice Islands and throughout Asia, West Africa and the Caribbean. However, Ginger did not appear in Europe until the 1st Century. The Ginger’s travels were all in connection with the lucrative spice trade. 

The Greek and Romans utilized the benefits of ginger extensively. With its sensual mood enhancing properties the Romans especially appreciated ginger root by adding it to their wine.

  • When using as an aromatic therapy the Ginger oil will be warm, spicy, earthy, and woody. This is a great base to add a little citrus oil for a slight change.

Ginger Essential Oil Side Effects

Ginger essential oil does not seem to produce any side effects, but like many essential oils, it is not recommended for use with pregnant women or children. Some essential oils may cause irritation or allergic reactions in people with sensitive skin so it is wise to do a patch test before using regularly.
